Important NoticeDue to the volcanic ash cloud, its ongoing eruption, the complete unpredictability of the situation and the continuing uncertainties surrounding international air travel, it is with great regret that we see no alternative other than to suspend the Global Music Foundation International Festival of Music and the Arts Dunmore East, Ireland 17 - 23 June 2010. These unprecedented events have created a situation where it's impossible to be able to guarantee a quality experience for students as we cannot know whether the team of tutors and performers will be able to get to Ireland. We are offering all students that have signed up to the course a full refund, or a chance to rebook on a future GMF course. OverviewThe spectacular setting, the team of outstanding performers and teachers and the varied schedule of activity all add up to an unforgettable experience for everyone who takes part.
The Summer School is open to vocalists, instrumentalists, martial artists and visual artists and both students and professionals are welcome to attend. It offers first class coaching by a team of leading international artists renowned for their teaching skills. Every GMF workshop features outstanding musicians who are also great communicators. Under their guidance, participants gain valuable insights and playing experience, rehearsing together towards a concert. There are classes in the various musical disciplines such as instrumental technique, harmony, ensemble playing and improvisation, and, as well as teaching individually and in groups, the tutors give performances themselves. All students on all courses will have an opportunity to attend morning classes from the other courses - ie if you are a dance student you will be able to do the morning workshops on pulse, choir, martial arts samba etc. From midday students will work with their tutors on their chosen course. This provides opportunities for everyone to sample a variety of disciplines and experience directly the inter-connectedness of all the arts. Fee for the Poetry Course is 200 Euros. Morning WorkshopsAt the beginning of each day, students on all the courses come together to participate in a unique sequence of activities which collectively stimulate self-awareness and enhance creativity.
Pulse Training - Stephen Keogh![]() Pulse lies at the heart of music, and developing one's own inner pulse is the goal of these sessions. The work fosters awareness - of the pulse, of silence, of the other members of the group. This workshop is hugely beneficial to musicians of every kind.
Vocal and Body - Guillermo Rozenthuler![]() The workshop explores the use of energy and the voice, and fine tuning body and mind coordination within a musical context. Using song material from all around the world we work at enhancing the quality of our listening skills and the sounds we produce.
Samba - Felix Gibbons, Percussion and Guillermo Rozenthuler, Voice![]() A group workshop in which we train and learn the various different calls and rhythms, under the guidance of Felix Gibbons and Guillermo Rozenthuler. The singers will learn some of the traditional songs as performed at the carnivals of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo. On the last day of the course there will be an open air public performance during which we will bring the joy and the spirit of carnival to Dunmore East. Every night at the jam sessions there will be opportunities to play Samba Cançao in a small group setting.
Martial Arts - Bob Breen
Bob Breen is regarded as the father of JKD and the Filipino martial arts in Europe. He is probably one of the most unique individuals in the martial arts world, and is renowned for his teaching abilities and his knowledge.

Showstopper!, The Improvised Musical![]() 'An ingenious and engaging mix of improvisation and musical theatre. If you admired the Comedy Store Players for their ability to think on their feet, this bunch do it with the same verve and flair, but set to music. I was left open-mouthed. The act's success lies in the invention and skill of a cast who seem to be able to turn their brains and voices to any subject and musical style. I can honestly say that I'd opt for this show's wild, inventive energy over The Sound of Music any day.'
WINNER - Mervyn Stutter's Spirit Of The Fringe Award 2009 'A joyous, uproarious collaboration propelled by the quickwittedness of the multi-talented cast.... The Sticking Place's musical high-wire act is HARD TO BEAT.' 'An awesomely talented cast. Don't miss seeing Showstopper! You really mustn't.' Prices

About Dunmore EastIreland's most picturesque fishing and holiday village in the south-east, 16 kilometres from Waterford City on the A684 and only 75 minutes driving from the Gateway Ferryport at Rosslare. Dunmore East is a village rich in history and an area of beauty and tranquillity."Nearby at the entrance of (Waterford) Harbour is the village of Dunmore, formally a place of resort for fishermen, but now a delightful and fashionable watering place. The village is situated in a valley, with a gentle slope towards the sea; the houses are built irregularly, without regard to site or uniformity of appearance, except that they all look at the same point - the Hook Lighthouse, on the opposite coast. Most of the cottages are built of clay and are thatched with straw, and generally let during the summer season from one to three guineas a week. On the hill, which forms the background of the picture, are the ruins of a church."
Nearly two hundred years later the thatched cottages are still there, though the rents have increased somewhat! The ruined church refers to the old church of Killea (Cill Aodha - Aodh's Church) thought to have been built in the twelfth century, one wall of which still stands, opposite the Catholic church of The Holy Cross, at the top of Killea hill.
